Collaboration: Origins

February 11, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Do you ever wonder why artists prefer to paint on canvas or smooth panels? Do you ever wonder about the origin of everyday things such as eating utensils, paper clips, bubble gum, zippers, velcro, etc.?

Artifact.1: You are to construct/create a substrate of yarn. You can use any process you wish such as knitting, crochet, weaving, wrapping. This piece is to be approximately 3 feet square (whatever shape you end up with needs to be in the neighborhood of that size).

Prompt Question: You will collaborate with another student by creating a prompt question they must respond to in a one-page word-processed paper. Your prompt question will inspire your collaborator to learn about the origin of an “every day” object of your choosing.

Artifact.2: You will graphically respond to the prompt question you received from your collaborator on the substrate you constructed from yarn.
