March is Youth Art Month

March is Youth Art Month (YAM). On Friday, March 2, Arne Duncan (U.S. Secretary of Education) wrote: The arts are an important part of a well-rounded education for all students. All of the arts – dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts – are essential to preparing our nation’s young people for a global economy fueled by innovation and creativity and for a social discourse that demands communication in images and sound as well as in text.

Montgomery County Community College announced the achievement this weekend of Patrick West and Celine Park for winning 1st place in Printmaking and Mixed-Media Design, respectively. Also juried into the very competitive exhibit were, Alexis Supple, Sara Gross, and Andrew Lang. Patrick West and Emily Berger had work juried into the PSEA Touch the Future exhibit which recently returned. In addition, Emily Berger, Rachel Bruni and Lydia Lombardi had work selected for the Clay Programs of Excellence show at Tyler School of Art. The Whitpain Womens Club announced That Alyshia Roberts, Michelle Galemmo, Sean Stevens, Ashanti Dixon, Zoe Kale, Paige Halper, Rita Dinatale and Emily Sullivan won awards in their photo contest. Six students will be featured each day on the morning announcements during the month of March accompanied by a blog featuring the same students.
